Mobile WebSiteStatoil announced Wednesday that the Hywind Scotland wind farm, located on the northeastern coast of Scotland, has begun to deliver electricity to the Scottish power grid, the world's first floating wind farm.
The 30-megawatt project was officially put into operation on Wednesday, with Scottish chief minister Nicholas-Stinkin attending the ceremony.
The wind farm is located 25 kilometers along the coast of Peterhead, Aberdeen, Scotland. The electricity produced can meet the needs of about 20,000 families and will be operated by Norwegian National Oil Company and Abu Dhabi Energy Masdar, Norwegian Petroleum (20.17 , -0.23, -1.13%) accounted for 75% of the company, Masdar shares accounted for 25%.
Government data show that Scotland has a quarter of the coastal wind energy resources in Europe. Scotland's low-carbon and renewable energy economy has created more than 58,000 jobs.
