Italy's first offshore wind power project leads the "Mediterranean"!

The 30MW fixed-scale offshore wind farm near Taranto will be connected to the grid in 2020. It will be the first grid-connected offshore wind project in the Mediterranean, ahead of France's three floating test wind farms connected to the grid in 2021.
Recently, the Beleolico offshore wind farm in the Mediterranean Sea of southern Italy has just completed the financing closure, and Ernst & Young accounting firm assisted the French Foreign Trade Bank in completing the financing. The wind farm will become Italy's first offshore wind farm to be built and put into operation. The project will also be awarded the first commercial scale offshore wind farm in the Mediterranean and become a milestone in the development of the offshore wind power project in Southern Europe.
The wind farm originally planned to install wind turbines in 2018, which was delayed due to various reasons, but the latest plan is to start construction at the end of this year. Project designer Mott MacDonald expects the project to be put into operation in 2020. Unlike the three floating test wind farms in France, which are also located in the Mediterranean Sea, the Taranto project uses a fixed foundation with a water depth of 4 to 18 meters.
The project developer is Renexia, a subsidiary of the ToTo Group, a large Italian infrastructure construction company, responsible for the renewable energy business. They bought the offshore wind power project from the Belengia renewable energy company in Belgium last year. Renexia is also currently developing an offshore wind power project in Maryland, USA.
