UK imitates Chinese electric vehicle promotion policy

China is undoubtedly one of the earliest in the promotion of electric vehicles. After years of policy support and the cultivation of promotion subsidies, the domestic electric vehicle industry has achieved tremendous development and progress, and has become the world's largest electric vehicle consumer market. According to McKinsey's latest 2020 EV Index report, in 2019, 2.3 million EVs were sold worldwide, an increase of 9% over 2018. Sales of electric vehicles in the Chinese market reached 1.2 million.

As the global automobile accelerates its transformation towards electrification and intelligentization, more countries are beginning to follow China and join the electric vehicle camp. It also accelerates the development of the electric vehicle industry through policy support and financial subsidies.

A few days ago, according to foreign media reports, the British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak introduced the UK's 2020 budget. Among them, in order to protect the environment and energy and vigorously promote the development of electric vehicles, the British government has decided to allocate 500 million pounds (about 4.3 billion yuan) to build an electric vehicle supercharging network in the next five years to match the increase and popularity of new energy vehicles.

In addition to building a charging network, the budget includes extending the UK's subsidy for electric vehicle purchases to 2023, a move expected to cost 403 million pounds. However, the subsidy for bicycles will be reduced from £ 3,500 to £ 3,000, and electric vehicles with prices exceeding £ 50,000 will not be eligible for the subsidy.

In addition to the United Kingdom, many European Union countries are also actively promoting electric models. The main reason is the impact of EU environmental protection policies.

Since January 1, this year, the European Union has implemented more stringent motor vehicle emission standards. Most of the car companies that are severe in Europe cannot meet the emission standards and face huge fines. Therefore, this policy has also forced various auto companies to a certain extent to develop and sell pure electric vehicles and new energy vehicles with lower emissions.
