How to choose a contactor

The contactor is mainly composed of an electromagnet and a contact. The contactor with a larger capacity also has an arc extinguishing device.

The contactor is mainly composed of an electromagnet and a contact. The contactor with a larger capacity also has an arc extinguishing device. When the coil is not energized, the open contacts are called normally open contacts, and the closed contacts are called normally closed contacts. When the coil is energized, the electromagnet generates a suction force to attract the armature, so that the normally open contact is closed and the normally closed contact is disconnected. After the coil is de-energized, the electromagnet loses its attraction, the normally open contact is disconnected, and the normally closed contact is closed to realize the on-off of the circuit.

The selected contactor should meet the following requirements:

(1) The rated working voltage of the main contact of the contactor should be greater than or equal to the rated voltage of the load.

(2) The rated working current of the main contact of the contactor should be greater than or equal to the current of the load circuit. If a contactor is used to control the motor, the rated current of the main contact of the contactor is generally reduced by one level.

(3) The breaking capacity and the ability to withstand overload current of the contactor should be higher than the current value that may appear in the circuit.

(4) The use category of the contactor should be adapted to the requirements of the controlled object and operating conditions.
