Analysis of the cause of yellowing of copper wire in wire and cable


The wire and cable manufacturing industry is an industry of material finishing and assembly. First, the amount of materials used is huge, and the cost of materials in cable products accounts for 80-90% of the total manufacturing cost; second, the types and varieties of materials used are very large, and the performance requirements are particularly high. For example, copper is required for copper purity. Above 99.95%, some products must use oxygen-free high-purity copper; third, the selection of materials will have a decisive impact on the manufacturing process, product performance and service life. Among them, the selection of copper wire is particularly important, if a little carelessness may cause a safety accident. This article sorts out some of the reasons and treatment methods of copper wire yellowing for reference.


Yellowing usually has the following reasons:

1. The temperature of the tin furnace is too high and the fluidity is large, which leads to too large pinholes in the plating layer and fast penetration of copper and tin

2. Tin layer is too thin, copper and tin permeate quickly

3. There are too many halogen residues in the flux, and the copper surface is not thoroughly pickled

4. The packaging time is too fast, the heat has not been dissipated, and the tin furnace has too much impurities

5. The quality of copper is not good enough, and there are too many impurities

6. The temperature has an effect on the activity of copper atoms. Hot weather turns yellow faster than cold weather.

These problems can be solved by the following methods.

1. Die diameter> thread diameter + 0.02mm (the purpose is very simple and the coating should not be too thin)

2. Place it for about 2 hours after production and then pack it (purpose: internal heat dissipation);

3. Buy a good flux and match the flux concentration, mainly because the flux affects the quality of tin plating;

4. Choose better oxygen-free copper wire.
