Shidaowan high-temperature gas-cooled reactor nuclear power plant demonstration project achieves dual-reactor criticality

     On November 11, the world's first high-temperature gas-cooled reactor, the No. 2 reactor of the Shidaowan High-temperature Gas-cooled Nuclear Power Plant Demonstration Project, became critical for the first time.
      This is another major progress made by the demonstration project after the completion of the dual-reactor cold test, the dual-reactor thermal test, and the first material loading this year, and the successful criticality of the No. 1 reactor on September 12, marking the successful completion of the dual-reactor criticality of the demonstration project. During the year, the goal of grid-connected power generation was achieved and a solid foundation was laid.

   China Industry News learned from China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd. that at present, the demonstration project No. 1 reactor has completed the zero-power physical test in the low-power stage under helium atmosphere, and is carrying out follow-up charging to advance to the first grid-connected power generation goal. Reactor No. 2 will follow the test path of Reactor No. 1 for atmosphere conversion and follow-up tests.
       The Shidaowan High-Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor Nuclear Power Plant Demonstration Project is a major landmark project of my country’s nuclear power independent innovation, with an installed capacity of 200,000 kilowatts. The pebble-bed modular high-temperature gas-cooled reactor characterized by the nuclear energy system.
High-temperature gas-cooled reactors have good inherent safety, high power generation efficiency, strong environmental adaptability, and a wide range of applications. They have broad commercial application prospects in nuclear power generation, combined heat, power and cooling, and high-temperature process heat. They are my country's optimization of energy structure and guarantee of energy supply. An important path to safety and to achieve the "dual carbon" goal.
   It is worth noting that the key core technology of the Shidaowan High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor Nuclear Power Plant Demonstration Project is entirely owned by China. This nuclear power plant jointly built by Huaneng Group, China National Nuclear Corporation and Tsinghua University has a localization rate of 93.4%. It has formed about 50,000 drawings, 100,000 pages of documents, and more than 15,000 nuclear power plants with high technical content and high safety design requirements. Island equipment, etc., our country has completely independent intellectual property rights.
   It is also learned that, as an important participant in the construction of the demonstration project of the high-temperature gas-cooled reactor nuclear power plant, China National Nuclear Corporation plays an important role in EPC general contracting, fuel element manufacturing, and engineering construction. In particular, through China National Nuclear Energy Technology Co., Ltd. ("China National Nuclear Energy") and Tsinghua University continue to deepen the school-enterprise cooperation, and have embarked on a successful road to promote the transformation of nuclear energy scientific and technological achievements.           Established in 2003, China National Nuclear Corporation is a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor technology achievement transformation platform jointly built by China National Nuclear Corporation and Tsinghua University. It assumes the responsibility of the project implementation subject and the nuclear island EPC general contractor in the construction of the high-temperature gas-cooled nuclear power plant demonstration project.
